Be With Your Body
I heard a wonderful truth from a neighbor friend recently. She was telling me about a yoga class and something the instructor said really hit her. It had the same impact on me. The instructor reminded the class to “be with your body.”
Being with my body is miraculously healing for anxiety, because it reminds me to reel all my thoughts back in and ground them through my feet like a lightning rod. Gather the aimless energy back into the earth instead of letting them swirl around in my head. God made us out of the dirt, and we can live a more centered life when we know where we stand. My body is my soul's own place, and I can take comfort in that.
After I tell myself to be with my body, I take a deep breath and remember I don’t have to be everywhere at once. Jesus gave me one body and connects us all through one Spirit: "There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:4-6).
Be with your body, be with the body of Christ, be with Christ.
